Sadeh
What does it mean to let land rest? This is the question on the mind of Felix, a queer climate activist who moved to the first Jewish farm in the
United Kingdom after becoming disabled. Sadeh is a documentary short that shines a light on a lesser known British Jewish community who are applying ancient agricultural laws and values into the modern world of industrialised farming and climate chaos.
This score was inspired by old Jewish hymns that the director, Jessica Benhamou, share with me. We discussed how the community at Sadeh were a modern representation of Jewish people, and as such, wanted the music to reflect this. I decided to “modernise” the ancient Jewish hymns by taking little motifs from the melodies and then surrounding them with contemporary instrumentation and unexpected harmonies.
